I have been coming here once a year for 20 years. While the decor and the chef de cuisine has changed over this time, the food has always managed to amaze us. Comparing this to other high end tasting menu restaurants, I think it's actually a good price point for everything you get. I have left other such restaurants hungry, but never Topolo.
The combination of Mexican flavors re-imagined elevates every dish to something more than you can experience anywhere else. We had the seasonal Baja tasting menu. Take something as mundane as eggplant and combine it with macha, black garlic and rancho crema and wow. I was scraping the plate.
I hope that they can keep this wonderful restaurant going for another 20 years. -

Elevated, "haute" Mexican food that remains rustic and stays true to its roots. Dishes are insanely flavorful but surprisingly delicate. Sauces are the star of the show: every sauce is unique, rich, and complex. Mop up the extra sauce with unlimited homemade tortillas.
At this price point ($150 for classic tasting menu, two oysters and drinks), the food doesn't quite earn 5 stars. Also, the meal was on the slow side: 3 hours for 5 courses. -

Went there for a special anniversary dinner. Phenomenal wine pairings, interesting takes on elevated Mexican food and service that went above and beyond our expectations. We spring for the ceviche sampler and were beyond impressed. My personal favorite was the soft shell crab. It was savory and a real stand out presentation, followed by that famous black mole.
I would say that their more classic margarita was sweeter than anticipated, but that's a personal preference. -

Finally got a chance to dine here while in Chicago for work. My husband and I opted for the tasting menu with wine and spirit pairings.
We had great service that is attentive and our server was able to recommend additional specialty to try such as the seafood platter, Topolobampo oysters, and the addition of a foie gras dish. The server also had the bartender make a delicious and unique cocktail.
Overall, the foods are unique. Some dishes are very good while others are okay. The spirit and wine pairings complement the foods. I wish that one of the wine pairing offered a Mexican wine. I think that would be a nice and thoughtful approach to highlighting foods from Mexico.
If you haven't tried this restaurant, I would recommend dining here once to experience the foods and drinks in Mexico. -

Seriously the most amazing food I've ever had. I tried the four course lunch tasting and added an additional course. The staff was so attentive, the food was perfect and it was just an all around great experience. I'm so sad I live in California and won't be back to eat here again for a while.
